“Doctor, question that’s always bothered me and a lot of people: Mayflower, combined with Philadelphia – a no-brainer, right? Cause this is where the Mayflower landed. Not so. It turns out Columbus actually set foot somewhere down in the West Indies. Little known fact.”

We here at insideARM.com wanted to take a moment to share our Thanks with you for being faithful readers. Whether its reporting on incredibly generous charitable giving or FDCPA violations or weird all-caps emails to us about airlines — you’re with us every day. We thank you for your commitment, your time, and you appreciation of what we try to accomplish in this industry.

We also wanted to give the staff here at insideARM.com a chance to share what they’re thankful for. And if, after reading through the list, you feel moved to share your own feelings of thanks and gratitude, we’d love to hear from you in the comments.

From our staff to you, we wish you all a safe, happy, delicious, and contemplative Thanksgiving. There is much to be grateful for; and there’s so little time to appreicate it all.

I’m thankful for three years at insideARM.com, during which the site has changed quite a bit. I think it’s been a very positive change, both in terms of the products and services we offer, as well as the development of our team as a unit. I’m also thankful for Skyrim. Not even kidding.

I’m thankful for my new husband (!), for no more seating charts or centerpieces, for fewer wedding performance recommendations from Mike Bevel for my wedding, for my family and friends, for our terrific clients, for the guys at work who keep me laughing (mostly).

When I look back over a lifetime of questionable choices and near-misses, I’m reminded to be thankful and grateful for my health. With the genes I’m working with, and the generations of gravy-soaked forebears, I should be less mobile than I currently am. I’m glad for my health. I’m honored that the family I have — Zach, the cats, the ghost who lives in the secret closet inside of my closet — loves me as much as they do. I’m grateful for books and writers and readers and pie. I’m blessed to work with the most amazing group of ragtag misfits and ne’er-do-wells who make coming to the office every day not just a chore — but a joyful chore. And I’m truly thankful for each and every one of you. Even the means ones.

I’m thankful for our fancy new whiteboard drawable paint wall, and all that’s on it. I’m thankful that training my daughter to poop in the potty was surprisingly easy. I’m thankful that my grandfather passed away this year, as opposed to any other year proceeding; it’s rare that a grown man with two kids and very little hair gets to enjoy the company of his grandfather for as long as I was able to, and I got that.

I am truly thankful for the deep and lasting friendship Mike Bevel and I have been able to cobble together out of our bits of shared interests and witty office banter. The term BFF gets thrown around too freely — but I’ll say that Mike Bevel puts the “F” in Friend and Forever.

Also, clients.

I’m thankful for:

  • Renewed interest in solving problems of economic opportunity and income inequality throughout the world.
  • The free culture and free software movements, for providing tools, knowledge, and inspiration.
  • My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, which fills me with a freakish amount of joy.
  • Science!

For my family & friends; for Flannie & Pembry & Vegas & Vixen (and furry critters everywhere); for my colleagues at insideARM (whom I regard as family, friends, & mental cases); for fiction; for pickles; for great movies; for Drive-By Truckers; for Springfield Armory; for Marshall Lake; for doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles; for Lambeau Field; for dirty words; for bicycles & and bike rides; for vodka; for love; for sarcasm; for laughter; for The Leopard, who taught me some of the best things I know. And for ALC (she knows why).
