Collection industry representatives make billions of contacts with consumers on behalf of creditors every year.  A significant percentage of these communications are conducted over the phone; thus, outbound calling compliance ranks among the most important issues facing the accounts receivable management industry.  But a new report by Interactive Intelligence suggests that calling compliance is not only an operational imperative for collection firms—it’s also a moving target.

Did you know?

  • 89 percent of Americans are mobile phone subscribers and almost a quarter of the country lives in a cellular-only household.
  • In the FTC’s March 2011 Report to Congress, complaints against third-party debt collectors were up nearly 25 percent over 2009 figures and the top complaint in 2010 remained that “[a]debt collector calls repeatedly or continuously.”

Interactive Intelligence, Latitude Software, and insideARM.com recently published a free white paper on the significant—but not insurmountable—challenges ARM industry owners and executives must address in order to stay in compliance with calling regulations and meet the ever-changing demands of their clients.

The white paper, entitled 8 Tips for Outbound Calling Compliance for the Debt Collection Industry, examines some of the current economic, technological, legislative, and regulatory hurdles facing collection agencies today.  The report also offers agency owners some valuable advice about educating clients, proactive employee training, keeping abreast of changes in technology, and the importance of protecting clients’ brand reputations (as well as their own).

In addition to the white paper, InIn, Latitude, and insideARM.com will be hosting a free webinar, Outbound Calling Compliance: Hot Button Issues & Tips to Avoid Common Dialing Dilemmas, on Thursday, August 25, at 2pm Eastern.  The 75-minute event will feature a roundtable discussion among a panel of ARM industry experts who will expand on a range of topics introduced by the white paper.  Panelists will include:

  • Mark LaBoyteaux, Strategic Accounts Manager, Accounts Receivable Management – Interactive Intelligence
  • David Fletcher, Implementation Consultant – Latitude Software
  • Ian Winder, Sr. Product Manager, Accounts Receivable Management – Interactive Intelligence
  • Tomio Narita, Partner – Simmonds & Narita LLP
