Bethlehem, PA: RMS, the leader in business-to-business Accounts Receivable (A/R) management and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), was a proud contributor to the CCAA (Commercial Collection Agency of Association) Summer 2010 Collage Newsletter.

The article, authored by Darrel Hewson, RMS Vice President of Business Development, discusses effective collection practices broken down into four simple steps. Initially, this information was assembled as a webinar offered for free by RMS to their customers and prospects. The material was so well received that it was then transposed into a stand alone article.

“In the 25 years that I’ve been in the industry, we have seen dramatic changes in technology, behavioral scoring and management philosophies,” stated Darrel Hewson, RMS Vice-President of Business Development. “Through it all the fundamentals of collections have remained fairly constant in that you need to remain focused on the basics, with collaborative support from your up-stream process partners, to achieve an effective collection process.”

Step one covers the importance of having every customer complete a credit application. Step two reviews the creation and documentation of a detailed collection process. This process will have elements that carry over from customer-to-customer, but in every case has unique details and situation that must be addressed. Step 3 is the inclusion of a dispute management plan to address the cases where a debtor simply will not pay. The final step 4 is about knowing when to ask for help in cases where the debtor can’t pay.
