David Vant, Debt Purchase Manager at Cabot Financial recently completed a 290 mile cycle ride from London to Paris in aid of the Royal British Legion.  David raised in excess of £1500 for the charity with contributions from family and friends.

The Royal British Legion safeguards the welfare, interests and memory of those serving or who have served in the Armed Forces. The cycle ride is in its 15th year and was completed by over 300 riders over a four day period.

The journey took the riders through a diverse array of terrain and conditions. The first day was the longest, with the riders completing a mammoth 83 miles from Greenwich to Calais via Dover.  The North Downs and the busy A20 in Kent gave way to stunning and undulating countryside in northern France.  Motorcycle outriders ensured safe passage through the region’s picturesque villages where the riders were always warmly welcomed by local residents.

As a constant reminder of the cause for which the cyclists were riding, overnight stops were accompanied by short ceremonies at local war memorials.  The gruelling adventure ended with an adrenaline fuelled ascent to the Arc de Triomphe and a final memorial ceremony underneath the Arc which included a rousing rendition of La Marseillaise.

David Vant said “I am delighted to have taken part and completed such a fantastic event in memory of all those who have served and are serving in The Armed Forces.

All the participants really pulled together as a team during the event, motivating each other whenever necessary. This was particularly evident on a series of steep climbs on the approach to Abbeville.

“Despite a rigorous training schedule that started in January, the aching legs and sore muscles have all been worth it for such a good cause.  I am immensely proud of what has been achieved during a challenging but immensely satisfying four days.”
