Northland Group employees donated more than $6,000 in cash and several truckloads of goods to charities during the final six months of 2011, the company announced today.

“Our employees shatter the negative stereotypes you hear about this industry on a daily basis,” said Northland Group Inc. President Lance Black. “If you spend any amount of time around our debt collection staff and everyone else here, you realize what great people they are. I couldn’t be more proud of our team and the type of people who work here.”

In addition to donating more than $6,000 of their own money to charities including the Red Cross, Humane Society, ICA Food Shelf and other organizations, the Minneapolis, Minnesota-based debt collection agency’s employees put together and sent out more than 30 boxes of “goodies” for members of the U.S. military serving overseas.

Also, when a tornado devastated the North Minneapolis community during the summer of 2011, Northland Group debt collectors responded by packing a truck full of donated relief supplies for victims. Other efforts included sending truckloads of toys and supplies to families at the Ronald McDonald House and to children in need as part of the annual Toys For Tots program.

“Our debt collectors hear on a daily basis the struggles people all over this country are facing right now,” Black said. “It’s natural to want to do something in response to help the people around you. Debt collectors are real people, too, and we understand what it’s like out there. I think that when you take the time to look beyond the negative stereotypes that are so easily attached to our industry, you come to see a more realistic profile of the type of people working here and elsewhere.”

Northland Group Inc. is considered one of the preeminent third party debt collection agencies in the country.
