As if Republican challenges were not enough, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is also under attack in the courts.

The always excellent blog, The Hill, has a lengthy post about two of the major legal challenges to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, namely:

  • Lawsuits against the IRS charging that the subsidies it will provide low-income Americans to help them buy health insurance are illegal;
  • More than 60 lawsuits challenging the ACA’s mandate that health insurance plans include birth control.

Should any of these cases make it to the U.S. Supreme Court and should the court rule favorably upon them, the consequences could be “devastating,” one ACA supporter told The Hill.
