According to an announcement yesterday, RIP Medical Debt is holding its final mini-summit of 2017 which will focus entirely on the problem of unpaid and unpayable medical debt burdening our service members and veterans.
This event will take place at Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business, on Friday, November 10, at the Lincoln Center campus, 140 West 62nd Street, NYC, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The morning session will feature two panel presentations, a morning summary and Q&A period. The afternoon session will include "shirt sleeve" breakout sessions in adjacent classrooms of working groups of up to 10 people each. Each group will address the problems requiring solutions uncovered in the morning sessions.
Because of its local status, the VA's Harbor Healthcare has been invited to participate in the panel discussions along with Northwell Hospital Veterans and Liaison Services.
Attendees will include foundations and philanthropists, major local hospitals, one or more academics of the four-university team in the process of conducting an economic impact study of the effects of forgiving people of unpaid medical debt, major veteran organizations and advocacy groups, RIP partner TransUnion Healthcare, technology partners TheNumber and Obashi, and members of the media.
RIP's founders, staffers and several of our business partners will be marching together in an RIP contingent complete with banner and uniforms (for those who can still fit in them) the next day in NYC's famous Veterans Day Parade. They welcome civilian supporters to march with the group as well.
The organization reports that this will be the official kickoff fundraiser to help RIP raise the remaining money needed to reach their goal of locating, buying and abolishing $100M in veteran and active duty medical debt by 12/31/17. You can get in touch with RIP here.
