To better understand the distinctive needs of the medical industry, The Affiliated Group conducted a national quantitative research study with decision makers who were responsible for outsourcing accounts receivable within their healthcare organization.

A key takeaway from the study reveals there is an increasing trend in outsourcing pre-charge off (first party) accounts receivable with nearly one in two decision makers using their accounts receivable management provider on a first party basis.

There is also an opportunity for accounts receivable management providers to enhance client relationships. One in three consider their accounts receivable management provider to be a consultative resource, not just a provider.

Decision makers also felt there is mutual accountability for collection results with accounts receivable management providers. Having access to an online portal that provides real-time reporting on collection results was stated as helpful and important. Key must-haves in terms of online reporting functionality include:

  •       Real-time reporting
  •       Push instead of Pull reporting
  •       Ability to export data into Excel spreadsheets and other file formats
