Delays in an overdue omnibus package of healthcare regulations related to compliance and information security are creating trepidation among healthcare executives.

As Govinfosecurity.com reports, executives, especially CIOs responsible for information security, finding moving ahead on initiatives such as ICD-10 a challenge without knowing what compliance challenges await ahead.

“The omnibus package … will spell out extensive modifications to the HIPAA privacy, security and enforcement rules, as called for under the HITECH Act,” the website writes. It also will contain the final version of the HIPAA breach notification rule, violations of which today can cost a provider millions of dollars in fines, penalties and corrective actions.

The regulations are currently sitting with the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, with no timeline as to when they will be released, the website reports.
