Happy birthday, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

A year ago today we adopted you, and what a year it’s been.  We have so many names for you that I’m sure it gets confusing at times, but I prefer to call you Bill.  There was so much excitement, and naturally a few jitters, when we signed your papers last March.  As we’ve watched you grow over the past twelve months, I know things haven’t always been easy.  You, like all young pups, are expensive to raise.  And I know Mama and Daddy fight a lot these days.  About money.  About discipline.  About responsibility.  And I wish I could say I knew how things were gonna turn out, but right now that’s not entirely clear.  Next year at this time you might be back at the pound, or you might turn out to be just what this American family needed.

But come on, little buddy; let’s have some cake.  For now, you’re ours.
