U.S. Rep Bill Thomas (R-CA), chairman of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, requested yesterday that state credit union regulators collect data that will help determine the extent to which the unions are serving their members.

The move comes after a similar request was made last year of federal credit unions. The data is being used to judge whether credit unions should retain their tax-exempt status.
