Visionary Medical Systems today announced that it has acquired Antek HealthWare, LLC, a privately held company based outside Baltimore, MD, that develops practice management and laboratory information software for the healthcare industry. The acquisition represents a strategic move for Visionary in the laboratory information systems arena and signals a long-term commitment toward the development of a broader physician healthcare information technology strategy. Antek’s management team will continue to manage, deliver and support its current suite of products. Financial terms were not disclosed, as part of the agreement between the organizations.

“Visionary is focused on enabling the healthcare provider to make the best clinical decisions at point-of-care,” said Jason Patchen, chief executive officer of Visionary. “We were impressed with the flexibility, communications, security and value of Antek’s software. It offers the physician timely flow of accurate information from any in-house or third-party laboratory and, consequently, more constructive interaction.”

For the physician, laboratory testing is an increasingly important tool for diagnosis and treatment. Timely and accurate information while maintaining costs are two of the most pressing issues encountered within the industry. Antek’s solutions streamline and expedite day-to-day operations within the laboratory, without compromising the integrity of results.

Antek’s LabDAQ® Laboratory Information System provides outstanding functionality for reviewing lab results, validating quality control, ordering lab tests and managing patient records. In addition, Antek’s DAQbilling® Practice Management System offers quick and easy functionality for scheduling, billing, reporting and scanning; while enhancing practice efficiency and profitability for a complete business solution.

By integrating electronic lab results with Visionary’s EHR, physicians will be able to reduce the time required to report on and consult patient studies. An additional benefit of the easy accessibility of studies is that physicians are encouraged to consult historical patient studies that they normally wouldn’t due to time constraints introduced by other systems. “With all historical study information at their fingertips, physicians can look at the whole picture and the result is better informed decisions,” says Andy Pollack, president of Antek.

“With filmless radiology both organizational efficiency and patient care are also enhanced.” Mr. Pollack adds, citing that the savings in film costs alone can potentially justify the return on investment.
