Our Research Assistant Peer Call on Monday was packed full of great conversation and collaboration. Prior to our call, I circulated a Harvard Business Review article, Where Companies Go Wrong with Learning and Development which led to our members sharing some of their best learning and development practices. Here’s a look at some of the tips shared:
One member said they break training down by, what is a “need to know” versus “nice to know”. Need-to-know subjects are required before talking to consumers, and nice-to-know subjects are completed in smaller follow-up training.
Another member explained that they have had wonderful success pushing out small (no more than 1 slide) micro training weekly.
We also talked at length about how to leverage technology to keep your staff knowledgeable about subjects that aren’t necessarily used every day. Gamification, internal chatbots, easy policy, or job aid search engine functionality were among the top tools discussed.
Training is a critical part of an organization’s operation and compliance structure. It’s important to consider whether your training practices meet the learning styles of new generations and alter it when necessary. Training effectiveness can be evaluated through knowledge retention reviews, and training activity should always be logged.
Want to share your best practices or continue the discussion, join us Monday, September 12th at 4:00 ET!
