Last week, we brought you details about an FCRA litigation win, an update regarding Illinois’ new consumer complaints portal, and insights into Vermont’s new privacy law.
On Tuesday we brought you details from Troutman Pepper Locke, on an FCRA win in which the central issue of the case was whether it was reasonable to rely on an official court website during an investigation. Though the case involved a CRA, the court’s opinion and language regarding reliance on official court records might be useful for furnishers in the future.
On Wednesday, we published news from Orrick about the new online consumer complaint portal in Illinois. ARM industry stakeholders should be aware of this new portal and keep an eye on their Illinois complaint volumes.
On Thursday we brought you insights from Maurice Wutscher about Vermont’s new data privacy and surveillance act. Privacy laws are an emerging area, and each state seems to have its own definitions, requirements, and applications. Though ultimately these laws may not apply to ARM industry participants, it’s important to be aware of new laws and at least glance at them to determine whether your organization or your clients fit within the scope.
