Commerce Bancorp to Expand Branches, Hire 1,500 This Year

Commerce Bancorp, New Jersey’s largest bank, will hire 1,800 new workers as it builds 55 or more new branches in 2005 and expands into Washington, D.C., the company said on Thursday.

The bank has been aggressively expanding throughout the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S and has been able to snare deposits by adding branches and services such as seven-day a week teller services.

Aside from its home state of New Jersey, new branches will be built in and around the markets of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore and in its traditional areas of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.
