U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow said Thursday the nation’s economy is healthy and he reiterated the Bush administration’s support for a strong dollar, a week before he is scheduled to attend a meeting of the finance ministers of the Group of Seven industrialized nations.
Snow said he will discuss “the paramount importance of higher growth rates” with his G-7 counterparts at the meeting in London, and will meet with his Chinese counterpart. Snow also said once again that China should move toward a flexible exchange rate.
The U.S. economy is “very strong,” Snow said in remarks to a real-estate group in Washington. But the Treasury secretary said several key economic issues need to be addressed in the coming months.
