MINNEAPOLIS, MN – ACA International, the Association of Credit and Collection Professionals (ACA), reached an all-time high of 5,753 members at the close of its 2004/05 fiscal year on May 31, 2005.
In all membership divisions, numbers were up from May 31, 2004. The total of 5,753 ACA members includes:
- 3,522 collection agency members;
- 1,302 creditor members;
- 758 attorney members; and
- 171 affiliate members providing products and services to the industry.
The association’s new membership record is further evidence of a broad growth trend also seen in industry revenue and employment figures.
The industry employs 413,000 collectors and is expected to have added 21 to 35 percent to staffing roles between 2002 and 2012, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
An October 2004 article in The Economist reported that burgeoning levels of consumer debt and the increasing proclivity of creditors to outsource their receivables management have helped annual industry revenues to triple in the last 10 years to $16.5 billion.
