New Child Support Panel Sets Order of Tasks

ATLANTA ? The state commission created to develop new child support guidelines for Georgia will gather economic data first, then crunch those numbers before taking their findings to the public.

The panel of legislators, lawyers, judges and economists set that timetable during an organizational meeting Wednesday.

Gathering data that is specific to Georgia must be the first priority because it?s never been done systematically, said Rep. Earl Ehrhart, R-Powder Springs, the new commission?s chairman. ?We have anecdotal information,?? he said. ?(But) how can you evaluate our guidelines if we can?t see the data???
