House Passes Bank Deposit Reform, Sends to Bush

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday approved sweeping changes to deposit insurance, allowing a federal regulator to index coverage levels to inflation and merging the bank and savings insurance funds.


The provisions were included in legislation the House approved to cut about $39 billion from domestic spending over five years.
