Spitzer Proposes New Identity Theft Protections

Companies that have experienced security breeches involving 500 or more New Yorkers would have to notify their customers under legislation state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer proposed Monday.

Spitzer said the legislation would better protect New Yorkers against identity theft. He cited a February report from the Federal Identity Theft Data Clearinghouse that said New York ranked seventh among the states in terms of reported instances of identity theft.
