U.S. Group to Help Chinese Firms Collect Debt

As China becomes a growing force in the global economy, a national credit management association in Columbia is taking steps to help Chinese businesses and U.S. companies doing business in China get paid.

The Association of Professionals in Finance, Credit and International Business (FCIB) is establishing a presence in China to reduce the number of Chinese companies that do not attempt to collect delinquent payments from customers, says Aneta Spilman, vice president of the association.

While credit management practices in the United States are well developed, such as the use of collection agencies to collect from delinquent customers, collection agencies are prohibited by law in China. To collect from customers, Chinese businesses have to work with local attorneys.
