The City of Falls Church?s (VA) treasurer has retained a professional collection agency to assist in getting citizens to pay overdue personal property taxes. Treasurer Bob Morrison announced the move this week, noting that action by the Virginia General Assembly to move up the date for state car tax reimbursements to local jurisdictions from 2006 to 2005 prompted the need for swift action.
?We had to move very quickly to make sure Falls Church receives its maximum share of the state?s refund amount,? Morrison said. He said longer-term plans are to add a full-time collector to the City Treasurer?s office.
NexBank, a nationwide collection firm retained by a number of neighboring jurisdictions, had been retained by Morrison and has already begun contacting citizens with delinquent accounts.
