MINNEAPOLIS, MN – U.S. Congressman Mark Kennedy, the second-term Republican representing Minnesota?s Sixth Congressional District, focused on a variety of issues during his visit to the headquarters of ACA International (ACA), the Association of Credit and Collection Professionals, in Minneapolis on Tuesday, April 22, 2003. More than 30 ACA International members, staff and invited guests participated in the meeting.
Kennedy, the only Minnesotan on the House Financial Service Committee, offered a common sense perspective to issues including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), tax relief for small businesses and the rising cost of healthcare insurance.
In addition, Kennedy discussed the need for Congress to act on the seven provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) scheduled to sunset on Jan. 4, 2004. He said the FCRA reauthorization is the biggest issue facing the financial services industry today and that maintaining federal credit regulations is necessary to improving the nation?s economy.
?As the association for credit and collection professionals, ACA is leading the industry?s grassroots initiatives,? said Gary Rippentrop, CEO of ACA International. ?By inviting Congressman Kennedy to listen to our members and to work with ACA to find reasonable solutions for all parties involved, our voice on Capitol Hill is strengthened.?
