White House Mulls Fannie, Freddie Asset Limits

The Bush administration is considering whether to seek limits on the assets of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks, according to a report published Monday.


The talks about Fannie and Freddie and the banks are still at an early stage, the Wall Street Journal reported. But limits on mortgage holdings would be in line with suggestions from Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan and would please some administration officials who say the government-sponsored enterprises have grown too large, the Journal said.
