Writing Bad Checks Will Cost You More

ROCKFORD ? Consumers who fail to repay bad checks could face fines of up to $2,500, under a newly strengthened program designed to support merchants burned by scammers.

Winnebago County State?s Attorney Paul Logli announced the Bad Check Restitution Program this week, an enhanced version of the county?s 14-year-old Check Offender Program.

Under the Bad Check program, fees and costs for writing bad checks range from $200 ? an amount often levied under the former program ? to $2,500, not including the amount of the check.
