Debt Collection Lawyer Reaches Plea Deal

One of Michigan’s leading debt collection lawyers who was accused of falsifying hundreds of court documents has pleaded no contest to 136 counts of criminal contempt of court.


Howard A. Katz made the plea Tuesday in Lincoln Park 25th District Court in a deal with prosecutors. Under the deal, he will give up his law practice for two years, serve six months’ house arrest and pay $143,437 in restitution and court fees.
