CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — May 18, 2015 — CBE Companies Inc. (CBE), a global provider of outsourced call center solutions, wrapped up a successful Pay It Forward campaign of giving back to its communities in April.

The company’s CBE Cares program encourages employees to give to community causes and donate their time to service projects. As part of that larger program, each year CBE targets a month not normally seen as a peak philanthropy period for its Pay It Forward campaign. Employees are encouraged to work together in teams to leverage their efforts during the month.

Creativity abounded for CBE employees, as they discovered ways to help others in their own backyards, whether that was in Iowa, Kansas, Texas, Massachusetts or the Philippines. Their efforts made a difference in the lives of children, the elderly and those in between. Service projects ranged from cleaning up recreational areas to helping children with homework.

Amanda Hilmer, a CBE manager, worked alongside many of her team members on a park cleanup project.

“It was great to see employees stepping up with this project. It was fun to have not only employees but their families involved also,” Hilmer said. “We had excellent teamwork and excitement from Day One of the mission.”

Those benefiting from Pay It Forward projects included:

  • A neglected recreational rail trail in Massachusetts
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Residents of a retirement community
  • An Iowa park, with a cleanup project and installation of a Little Free Library
  • Volunteering for the Boys and Girls Club
  • Children’s Mercy Burn Unit in Kansas City
  • Humane Society
  • Salvation Army
  • Child Life Program – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
  • Cedar Valley Food Bank
  • Hartman Reserve Nature Center
  • Bus and cab drivers, construction workers, janitors and security guards in Manila, who received free food

Nick Elliott, a training supervisor, helped install a Little Free Library in Waterloo, Iowa’s Washington Park.

“If we can help anyone in the community learn something new, use their imagination, influence someone else, or even help them through a difficult time, then we consider the Little Free Library project a success,” Elliott said.
