Two ACA members in New York – Eric Najork and Lynn Goldberg – joined ACA International Executive Vice President and General Counsel Rozanne Andersen on May 14, 2009 to testify on behalf of the credit and collection industry before members of the New York State Assembly (“ACA Staff, Members Testify Before NY Assembly Committees on Behalf of Collectors,” May 26).

With all of the negative press and regulatory action against the ARM industry, the trio felt that collectors’ voices needed to be heard.

The story prompted an interesting discussion of the role the ARM industry must play to weed out the bad actors itself. “NYS is involved in a 3 month crusade to identify those who do not buckle up, I’d like to see a similar crusade to root out constant and persistent violators,” said one comment.

With a combative regulatory environment, self-compliance and accountability appear to be hot topics in the industry once again.
