Marvin was born and raised in Philadelphia, graduated from NorthEast High School and Lafayette College in Easton, PA.  Marvin played basketball on his high school team and also for four years at Lafayette.  For a short time while waiting to go overseas with the Army Marvin traveled with the SPHAs basketball team (South Philadelphia Hebrew Association) playing against the Harlem Globetrotters.  After service in Korea and Japan Marvin returned to Philadelphia and joined the family floor covering distributorship business.  In 1963 he married and subsequently moved to Maryland to operate a startup floor-covering distributorship.

In 1980 Marvin became a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and business intermediary. In 1988 he founded the firm that would become Kaulkin Ginsberg, a mergers and acquisitions business in the collection industry.  Marvin was a key figure in the unprecedented roll up of firms in that industry and also launched the industry’s first electronic newsletter and website, CollectionIndustry.com (now insideARM.com, which has been owned and run by Marvin’s stepdaughter, Stephanie Eidelman, since 2013).

During his lifetime Marvin touched so many lives with his kindness, good humor, generosity, and love.  He will be greatly missed.

Marvin is survived by his wife and partner Toby of 32 years, sons Andrew and Michael, stepchildren Ted and Stephanie, their beloved spouses Hope, Mark, and Georgianna, and adored grandchildren Philo, Talia, Arielle, Samantha, and Remy.

Donations in Marvin’s memory may be made to Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Sarasota, Florida. Marvin felt strongly about the wonderful work they do.
