The State Government Affairs committee of the American Financial Services Association has published a new whitepaper that addresses many presumptive changes for auto loan debt collection, according to industry publication AutoRemarketing.com.

“With the passage of the Dodd-Frank Act, regulation of debt collection activities will likely increase as the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will have the authority to issue new rules under the Fair Debt Collection Protection Act,” say committee members in “Motor Vehicle Debt Collection (June 2011).”

The AFSA said that 48 states had considered legislation dealing with debt collection and that 27 of those dealt specifically with automobile-related debt collection.

AFSA members can obtain the paper at the association’s website, www.afsaonline.org.
