General Revenue Corporation (GRC), the nation’s largest university-focused collection agency and subsidiary of Sallie Mae, today celebrated 25 years in Cincinnati by giving thanks to the community that has supported it since 1981. To commemorate the milestone anniversary, GRC and The Sallie Mae Fund, the charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae, donated $10,000 to local charity FamiliesFORWARD, a non-profit agency that serves more than 1,200 Cincinnati children and is dedicated to helping children attend college.

GRC adopted FamiliesFORWARD as a corporate charity in 2004 and together with The Sallie Mae Fund has donated more than $60,000 to help the organization create an arts and humanities program that fosters educational development for Cincinnati children. Both GRC and FamiliesFORWARD have a focus on education, and it was this common interest that brought the groups together.

“The generosity of General Revenue Corporation and The Sallie Mae Fund has gone a long way to enriching the lives of Cincinnati children,” said Betti Hinton, president, FamiliesFORWARD.

Founded in 1981 by Myron Rowland and the late Bob Lawhorn, GRC opened its doors as a small company recovering loans for the education industry. Today, GRC has 1,200 employees and is recognized as the largest student loan collection agency in the nation. More than 1,000 institutions and clients, including nine student loan guaranty agencies and 900 higher education institutions, entrust GRC with the responsibility of resolving their borrowers’ outstanding debt obligations. The company also has diversified its services to include clients in a variety of other industries, such as government, utility, automotive, telecommunication, retail and shipping.

“The legacy of quality customer service and exemplary corporate citizenship that began with GRC founders Myron Rowland and Bob Lawhorn continues at GRC today,” said GRC President Joe Fazzini. “We are an education- and community-oriented company first and foremost, and today’s celebration is a thank you to our dedicated employees and the communities that support our growing company.”
