MILWAUKEE, WI – Bank One has cut 100 jobs in its auto financing division and mortgage collections unit at its downtown Milwaukee office.

The job reductions were related to business conditions, not to Bank One’s recent merger with New York’s JPMorgan Chase & Co., spokeswoman Mary Kay Bean said Friday.

Bean said 56 auto finance employees lost their jobs “in response to a reduction in business.” She said 44 mortgage collection employees were cut because defaults are down.

The cuts amount to about a 7 percent reduction of the bank’s 1,360 employees in downtown Milwaukee.
