Concerns over shortage of call centre workers in India with European language skills, other than English is prompting recruitment bosses to send staff from the UK to work in India.

London’s Launch Offshore boss Tim Bond wants to hire dozens of workers from Glasgow to work in call centres across India – for around £40 a week. Glasgow is seen as the call center’s capital of Europe.

Successful staff will be offered free flights and accommodation, a year’s contract and a monthly pay cheque between £150 and £380. Bond’s London agency plans to launch a two-day recruitment campaign in Glasgow next month. It is now searching northeast England for suitable staff. So far 12 have been flown to India and they will be joined at the weekend by another eight.
