Newport, OR – Newport Business and Professional Women announce the candidates for 2003 Woman of the Year. The women were nominated by area service organizations, and are Jerilyn Guiss, Kathryn Heater, Wanda Henning, Gabrielle McEntee-Wilson, and Senitila McKinley.
The Woman of the Year award recognizes the accomplishments and volunteer contributions of area professional women. The winner will be announced at the organization’s 50th annual Woman of the Year Gala Champagne Dessert, set for Thursday at the Best Western Agate Beach Inn.
Wanda Henning was nominated by the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce. She is the owner and president of Creditors Collection Services of Lincoln County, Inc. and is treasurer of the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
“Wanda is the epitome of a modern, pro-active business woman, successfully balancing a career and service to her community with an active family life,” said Phil Hutchinson, executive director of the Newport chamber. “Wanda, in harmony with her equally active husband Neal, encourages their children along the same path of service to others, instilling in them that spirit which makes our community and its residents unique.”
Henning has served as president of the Oregon Collectors Association and was awarded the Unit of Excellence Award at the association’s annual international conference. Her involvement brought the semi-annual Oregon Collectors Association conference to Newport. She has served as a partner in Collections West, a consortium of 11 Oregon collection agencies.
She is a member of the Newport Rotary Club, and has been recognized with the Paul Harris award. Other community volunteer service includes involvement with the Newport High School Grad Night committee, the Festival of Trees fund-raiser for the Pacific Communities Hospital Foundation, the Newport High School cheerleaders, the Miss Lincoln County Scholarship Pageant, the Newport High School Mock Trials competition, and the chamber of beautification committee.
