But not to begin with.

After conquering the world of online search engines, Google Inc. is setting its sights on online payments.

According to a story running on Reuters, Google will launch an online payment system called GBuy on Wednesday. While not as catchy a name as, say, PayPal ? the service will be essentially the same: allowing online merchants a way to accept and process transactions online.

Google?s business plan appears to be to target online merchants first, rather than consumer-to-consumer payments. With this being the case, it’s unlikely that Google will pose an immediate threat to PayPal, which is primarily focused on the consumer-to-consumer market.
