LONDON – Asia focused bank Standard Chartered Plc is eyeing Absa, after Britain’s Barclays Plc said it was in talks with South Africa’s biggest bank, the London’s Times newspaper said.


The newspaper did not cite the source of the report appearing in its Friday edition.


Barclays signalled on Thursday a return to retail banking in South Africa after 18 years’ absence, saying it was in talks to buy a majority of the country’s biggest retail lender.
