Businesses would be required to better guard the confidentiality of customers’ personal information under a measure that also affords consumers a weapon against identity theft.
The Senate Commerce Committee on Thursday approved the bill, the result of combining several pending bills. The measure now heads to the full Senate.
The bill would allow individuals to block access to their credit reports, thwarting identity thieves from taking out credit in their names.
