College students? average outstanding credit card balance dropped in 2004 to its lowest point since 1998, according to a recent study by federal loan issuer Nellie Mae.
At $2,169, the outstanding balance for the 18 to 24 age group surveyed is 7 percent less than what was reported in 2001. Vice President of Marketing for Nellie Mae Marie O?Malley attributed the decrease to young people?s increased general awareness of credit responsibility.
