A crackdown on credit card companies and unscrupulous money lenders was announced in the Queen?s Speech today.
With credit card debt nearing £60bn ($112.7 billion) in Britain, laws will be updated to give consumers greater protection from unfair lending practices.
It will give consumers more rights and make it easier for them to take unscrupulous lenders to court.
Lenders will be forced to provide customers with annual statements clearly setting out their credit agreements. The Office of Fair Trading will be given new powers to shut down the worst companies.
