This month, Greg Johnson, co-owner of Total Card Inc., plans to hire 40 to 50 more collections specialists. Like many businesses in the credit card and collections industry, this Sioux Falls, SD business is growing to meet demand.


“We have seen tremendous growth, as have many firms in Sioux Falls,” said Johnson, 37. “As more and more people are entering the credit-challenged category, there is an increased demand for collections specialists.”


According to a report by CardWeb.com, South Dakota’s average credit card debt per household is more than $9,000. As consumers continue to spend, careers as collections specialist are in demand.”The use of credit cards has grown, so, in turn, our business has grown,” said Rhonda Toft, human relations director for HSBC Finance Corp. “We have an increased need for phone representatives.
