Executives with West Corporation say they have their own brand of ?March Madness? on tap — hiring and training 700 workers to join the 800 workers employed at their new call center.

As West officials joined with community leaders yesterday to celebrate the grand opening of West?s new facility in Niles, OH, classes were beginning for 150 additional workers, the first wave of the 700 employees to be hired and trained. The company originally had expected to employ 1,000 workers at the Route 422 facility, which housed an MCI call center before it closed last year. The additional employees will serve a new client West recently signed.

John D. Sanley, executive vice president of West Telemarketing Inbound, would not name the new client the Niles call center will service, citing company policy, but described it as a ?satellite broadcasting company? which has previously won the J.D. Power award for excellence in customer service. The inbound call center currently provides customer support and technical support for Cingular.
