Visa USA, part of the world’s largest credit card network, on Thursday said consumers spent more than $218.7 billion on its branded payment cards in the 2004 holiday season, up 15.7 percent from a year earlier.
From Nov. 1, 2004 to Jan. 2, 2005, Visa credit card use rose 6.8 percent to more than $110 billion, while debit spending increased 26.2 percent to $90.6 billion, Visa said.
Corporate and small business card spending totaled $18 billion, Visa spokesman Paul Cohen said.
