The staff of New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer has launched an investigation into possible discriminatory practices in the interest rates and fees charged on mortgage loans, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.


The attorney general’s civil rights bureau recently sent out letters to several large lenders with operations in New York State, asking for information on their lending practices, the Journal said, citing a person it said had been briefed on the situation.
