As more libraries nation-wide begin turning to collection agencies to claim overdue fines, Naperville (IL) Public Library will let you in on a little secret.
It already does.
And its agency is pretty successful at coaxing sometimes less-than-willing patrons to cough up missing items.
From February 2001 through last November, Unique Management Services Inc. helped Naperville recover nearly $150,000 in fines and materials valued at $82,000.
But library leaders say they don’t care about the cash.
“We don’t want their money,” Nichols Library Circulation Supervisor Karen Knight said. “We just want the stuff back.”
