OTTAWA – Canada’s big banks are anxious to see the government’s much-delayed policy paper on bank mergers, Finance Minister Ralph Goodale said on Thursday, adding that he hopes to release it as soon as possible.
“(The banks) would still be anxious to hear from us in the paper as rapidly as possible, but I don’t get any sense of hyperactivity on their part,” he said.
“I think all things being equal they would like to be in a position to pursue all available options,” Goodale said, adding that the banks also understand “the sense of public responsibility around it as well.”
