Standard & Poor’s will make the following changes in the S&P MidCap 400 and S&P SmallCap 600 Indices after the close of trading on Monday, September 30, 2002: * CarMax Inc., being spun-off from S&P 500 component Circuit City Group, will replace MIPS Technologies in the S&P MidCap 400 Index. CarMax will be placed in the S&P MidCap 400 GICS (Global Industry Classification Standard) Specialty Stores sub-industry. (Shown in Table 1 at the end of this Press Release). MIPS Technologies had a market capitalization of $52 million after the close of trading on Tuesday, September 24, ranking 400 in the S&P MidCap 400 Index and continues to trade at a low price.
* S&P SmallCap 600 component XTO Energy Inc. will be added to the S&P MidCap 400 Index changing places with NCO Group Inc. XTO Energy will be placed in the S&P MidCap 400 GICS Oil & Gas Exploration & Production sub-industry. NCO Group will move to the S&P SmallCap 600 and the GICS Diversified Commercial Services sub-industry. (Shown in Tables 2 and 3 at the end of this Press Release.)
* Cimarex Energy Co., formed by the merger of Helmerich & Payne’s (in the S&P MidCap 400) spun-off Oil & Gas Division with Key Production (in the S&P SmallCap 600), will replace Key Production in the S&P SmallCap 600 Index.
