Bank of America Corp. on Thursday said it plans by year end to eliminate its fees for some customers to transfer money to Mexico, in a bid to attract more of the growing number of Mexican workers in the United States who wire money home.
The fee waiver comes with a requirement that customers open checking accounts.
The No. 3 U.S. bank, which is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, said its fee for checking account customers to wire money through its SafeSend service will at first fall to $8 from $10 for remittances of up to $1,500, effective immediately. The 3 percent foreign exchange fee will also be scrapped.
