Financial services giant HSBC North America said Thursday that it plans to open a new call center in Tampa and create 500 jobs.

That would bring HSBC’s total employment roster in the Tampa Bay area to nearly 2,000 employees.

The new call center, serving HSBC’s mortgage services subsidiary, will be at netp@rk.tampabay, a Hillsborough Avenue office complex that used to be Eastlake Square Mall.

HSBC currently employs 1,000 people at its HSBC Mortgage Services office in Brandon, and 400 more work in Tampa for HSBC’s consumer lending unit.
