Bankruptcy filings in U.S. federal courts dropped 3.9 percent in the 12 months ending March 31, but rose in the January-to-March quarter, the Administrative Office of the U.S. Court said on Friday.


Bankruptcies filed in the 12 months ended March 31 totaled 1.59 million, down from 1.65 million in the comparable period a year ago. Bankruptcy filings have consistently exceeded 1.5 million since first hitting that level in 2002.
