In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Office Depot disclosed plans to dismiss 900 workers in call centers, incurring $12.9 million in costs.
The 900 jobs to be affected are in eight call centers and offices in California, Connecticut, Georgia, Kansas, Ohio and Texas. The Texas call center is located in Dallas.
Office Depot said it will consolidate a portion of the call center and account management activities into two existing company call centers in Boca Raton, Fla. and Norcross, Ga.
The Delray Beach, Fla.-based company, which recently postponed a headquarters move to save money, also estimated it will save $15 million a year.
In Thursday’s filing, the office supplies retailer said it made an internal announcement Monday, detailing its plans to outsource the functions and to consolidate U.S. call center and account management operations. The change is not the biggest recent shift at the company. Earlier this month, Office Depot replaced its chief executive officer.
